Seven ways we work

Each initiative began with a real need in the neighbourhood — and each one is still running.

Ramai Sanskrutik Manch

An initiative to empower women from marginalized communities to act as a catalyst for social change against gender discrimination and casteism.

Ramai Sanskrutik Manch introduces marginalized women to the concepts of women empowerment, caste annihilation and social justice through songs celebrating the lives of Savitri Bai Phule, Shivaji Maharaj, Shahuji Maharaj and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.

Nirmik Youth Theater

Nirmik Youth Theater was launched in response to growing concerns among youth — such as substance abuse, social media addiction, communal tensions, and social apathy.

Triggered by incidents during the early pandemic, the initiative aims to help young people from marginalized communities engage meaningfully with themselves and society through theatre.

Nirmik Children Club

At Nirmik, we believe social change begins with children. Inspired by the ideas of Jyotiba Phule and Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, we engage with children from local communities in theatre, singing, and storytelling to nurture dignity, confidence, and constitutional values, especially in the face of poverty and limited opportunity.

Following the success of a puppet show and workshop in November 2023, we introduced theatre games and creative activities. In 2024, the children explored traditional games across history and developed them into a play titled Khel Pitara, performed at Yashwant Natya Mandir, Mumbai.

Nirmik Film Screening

Launched in August 2023, Nirmik Film Club represents a grassroots initiative dedicated to showcasing the finest in global and local cinema to a vibrant community of artists and working-class neighborhood residents. Our mission is rooted in creating a dynamic platform for engagement between filmmakers and our community, fostering a dialogue that transcends the boundaries of the screen.

Since 2025, our screening series has been titled, 'From the Margins'. Through this series we wish to explore what social justice, filmmaking and aesthetics in contemporary film are and how filmmakers are navigating it to challenge the status quo of society.

Nirmik Library

The Nirmik Library is a community space dedicated to nurturing a culture of reading, reflection, and dialogue.

Nirmik believes that developing scientific temperament and rational thinking is essential for building an informed and compassionate society. In today's digital age where information is instant, superficial and divisive, reading becomes a powerful act of mindfulness and critical inquiry.
